emollient
Castor Oil
INCI: Ricinis Communis (Castor) Seed Oil
What is it?
Castor oil is pressed from castor beans. It's unusually high in ricinoleic acid, at 80-90%, a fatty acid not found in significant amounts in any other common oil. It's typically used in formulations for its high viscosity and shine, especially in lip products and soap.
How is it used?
Blend it into the oil phase in small amounts to add shine and viscosity, rather than using it as the main oil in a formula.
