Cholesterol

INCI: Cholesterol

What is it?

Cholesterol used in cosmetics is typically derived from lanolin (wool grease) or made synthetically. It's naturally one of the key lipids in the skin's outer barrier, making up about 15% of its fatty content. It's typically used in formulations, alongside ceramides and fatty acids, to repair a damaged skin barrier.

How is it used?

Melt it into the oil phase of a formula alongside ceramides and fatty acids.
