Glycol distearate

INCI: Glycol distearate

What is it?

Glycol distearate is made by reacting ethylene glycol with two units of stearic acid. It's typically used in formulations as a pearlizing (opacifying/shimmer) agent rather than a true emulsifier.

How is it used?

Heat the batch to 70-75°C (158-167°F) to fully melt it in, then cool with continuous agitation to develop the pearl effect.
