Tetrahydrocurcuminoids
INCI: Tetrahydrodiferuloylmethane
What is it?
Tetrahydrocurcuminoids are made by chemically hydrogenating curcumin, the yellow pigment in turmeric, which converts curcumin's reactive double bonds into single bonds. That change is what strips out the yellow color, since the double-bond system is what makes curcumin look yellow in the first place, but it doesn't...
How is it used?
Pre-dissolve it in a glycol like propylene glycol before adding it to your formula. Avoid iron or copper contact during processing, since trace metals can affect its stability, and keep your formula's pH around 5 to 6.5.
